7 Tips on how to take care of your skin in summer

7 Tips on how to take care of your skin in summer

The temperature is rising above 20 degrees daily, the sun is shining at its brightest and the terraces are full: it´s finally summer again! The beaches and parks are packed. Everyone can only think of one thing: exchange that pale skin for a tan as soon as possible! After a long period full of rain and the cold, those sunrays feel wonderful on our skin. But not without consequences...a sunburn is only waiting around the corner. The sun can be very harmful to your skin which is why it´s even more important to take good care of it. A good skin care routine is an essential part to make sure your skin stays healthy. We have the perfect 7 tips for good skin care in summer.

Tips for good skin care in summer

1. Sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen!

Make sure your skin is protected and apply sunscreen at least 30 minutes before you go out into the sun. It is important to repeat this at least every 2 hours since the factor on the product only protects you during these first hours and diminishes after a while. Dermatologists recommend at least factor 30. This provides 96% protection against harmful UV-B rays. Do you have sensitive skin? Then factor 50 is recommended. And did you know that you can get a sunburn even while sitting in the shade? That´s because the sun gets reflected by sand and water easily.

2. Stay out of the sun between noon and 4 p.m.

In summer, the sun is the strongest between 12:00 and 4pm and therefore during that time you run the risk of getting a severe sunburn. That´s why good skin care in summer sometimes includes temporarily avoiding the sun because we don´t want to get sunburned, that´s for sure!

3. Protect your head, neck and eyes extra well

Your eyes are one of the most vulnerable parts of the body, therefore it´s important to protect them well and wear sunglasses that are large enough. We also recommend to wear a hat to protect your scalp since it is quite difficult to apply sunscreen to it. A hat or cap not only help preventing a sunburn but also protect against getting a sunstroke. FYI: A heat/ sun stroke is the result of too much heat and solar radiation on the head and neck.

4. Drink plenty of water

Naturally, you sweat a lot more when being in the direct sun. Sweating means: losing body liquid. One of the most important tips for good skin care in summer therefore is to drink a lot of water. This helps to keep your body fluids at the right level or to replenish them. Our tip is to drink at least one and a half liters of water per day! Are you out and about all day? At a water tap point you can get free (chilled) drinking water on the street. This is already possible at more than 1,800 places in the Netherlands!

5. You can learn to hydrate: use a beauty supplement

Especially during sunny days it is important to give your skin extra attention. You want to prevent skin aging and dehydration at all times! We recommend choosing our beauty supplement Clear & Pure because it takes care of your skin from the inside out and helps with the hydration and elasticity of your skin.

6. Take care of yourself

Getting enough sleep, eating healthy, exercising and reducing stress. These are essential components that we should not forget in the list of a good skin care in summer. An unhealthy lifestyle often manifests itself in unhealthy, bad-looking skin.

7. Cleanse your skin

One great thing about summer is that you get to be outside a lot. Unfortunately, that in turn also brings some drawbacks: the pollution of the air as well as exhaust fumes, street dirt and bacteria affect your skin and can cause long-term damage for it. Therefore our advice is to regularly cleanse your skin properly and remove the dirt from outside. One more tip: Be careful not to use too much soap. Water is often enough already.
